It's been fun. And will be again.
Once upon a time there was a newsletter called How To Read This Chart. Then it went away, only to be replaced by a newsletter called How To Read This Chart. Then that went away, and has stayed gone.
Or, I suppose, had stayed gone. Because I am bringing it back. Sort of. In a new way.
In my new job for Hearst, I have a weekly newsletter that comes out every Tuesday. It shares my columns and includes some data-based riffs on what's in the news. In short, it covers half of what I used to do at The Post, the politics and analysis half.

But How To Read This Chart did something else. It shared data visualizations and a bit of personality. And that has admittedly been lost.
So what I — we, at Hearst — have decided to do is send out a second edition of my newsletter each week, each Friday. In it, my team of data journalists and myself will share interesting charts we found and riff on them a bit. We will, in other words, share data visualizations and a bit of personality.
That will begin next week. If you're already subscribed to my newsletter, you don't need to do anything. If you aren't, click the button above and subscribe. It's relatively painless.
In the meantime, this site, the wonderfully URL'd howtoreadthisch.art, will be retired. You will be able to see the archive at pbump.com, since nothing on the internet ever really goes away. But you will never receive an email from this address, through this system again.
Good riddance! you may perhaps say, in which case I can only shrug. Or perhaps you're thinking something more like, Oh, I'll miss it! If that's the case, sign up for the new thing. It won't be the old thing, but maybe it will be better? Maybe you'll discover that you like the other members of my team's voices and insights better than mine. Lord knows I do.
Anyway. That's that. It's been fun. Hopefully for you, too. And hopefully it will be again, starting next week.
